Participants can choose whether to receive treatment individually or together. Typically a couple is seen together for the initial session, followed by each of the partners being seen individually.
Over the course of the initial sessions a thorough understanding is developed about the problems bringing a couple to treatment. If appropriate, information may be obtained from a referring physician, and lab work (if necessary) is reviewed.
Once the issues have been clearly identified a treatment plan is discussed and agreed upon. In many cases, treatment for sexual difficulties is done in a short term, problem-oriented treatment format; some sexual problems with other long-standing relationship issues may take more time to address.
Treatment is focused on the interaction between a couple’s relationship and their sexual issues.
Most couples wait six years to seek treatment for sexual issues. Haven’t you waited long enough?
